Intro to Mixed Climbing
experience a new fun challenge
The magical Hyalite Canyon – “an internationally recognized ice and mixed climbing venue” – is the perfect environment to get into this unique sport. This one day program focuses on developing a strong foundation for novice mixed climbers. Mixed climbing involves using ice tools and crampons to climb bare rock or routes that might have a mix of rock and ice. While the origins and core of mixed climbing come from necessary skills to climb big mountain routes, in recent years mixed climbing has become a sport in and of itself! Whether you’re looking to start developing the skills to attempt long alpine routes, or just looking for a new experience, this is a perfect introduction to the sport.
We’ll start with a basic ground school to cover equipment selection and fitting, tying into the rope and belaying, and basic movement technique. The majority of the day is spent climbing, practicing and coaching good technique.
