Learn the essentials of outdoor rock climbing. Although the physical movement is similar to indoor climbing, outdoor rock climbing brings a new set of challenges. This one day course will set you up to be a good outdoor partner, and contribute to making the crag a more welcoming environment. No prior climbing experience is required.

Topics include:

  • Crag etiquette and community building

  • Climbing focused Leave No Trace principles

  • Anchor-building and cleaning practices

  • Outdoor considerations for belaying and communication

  • Risk management and decision-making

What’s included:

  • All technical climbing equipment, including harness, helmet, carabiners, rock climbing shoes (participants may choose to use their own equipment provided it passes guide inspection)

  • Guide wage, 3% land use fee, and all other administrative costs

Not included:

  • Food

  • Personal clothing layers

  • Transportation to and from the climbing site

Location:

This program takes place at Allenspur in the Paradise Valley, about 10 minutes south of Livingston, MT. You’ll meet your guide at Carter’s Bridge and walk to the crag from there.
