Alpine Rock Essentials

hone the requisite skills to tackle classic alpine rock routes

This program begins with the foundations of rock climbing where participants learn about climbing techniques, knot tying, belay skills, rappelling, and multi pitch climbing.

The remainder of the program then focuses on applying the skills to alpine terrain – traveling light, fast, and efficient while ascending alpine routes. This part of the program covers the approach: pacing; third and fourth class terrain; and route finding.

Once on the climbs, the spotlight will be on rope management, alpine belays and anchors, more route finding, and different means of descent.

Previous climbing experience is not required. However, participants should be in good physical condition and have some backpacking or hiking experience.
